PRP Microneedling is a facial that will stimulate collagen and elastin production using your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). It’s a gentle but powerful way to treat aging skin on the face and neck.
PRP boosts the rate at which your tissue regenerates, leading to improved tone and texture. Simply put, PRP microneedling is basically just microneedling using your PRP as glide, which is needled in. Your PRP is put into an incubator to change its consistency to that of a filler, so it can be injected as a regular filler would be. It’s your own BIO-FILLER added to the traditional microneedling treatment!
The PRP injections can increase the thickness of the reticular dermis (the lower layer of the skin where elastic fibres dominate), according to a study published September 2017 in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. An increase of elastic fibers and collagen is how a healthy thickening of the skin occurs. Another study, published in June 2017, also found that Platelet-Rich Plasma can reduce the yellowish skin appearance that often comes with age or environmental damage, as well as wrinkles. The June study included 18 women whose average age was 49 years old, and researchers found that the women experienced an increase in collagen thickness, blood vessels and fibroblasts.
A July 2016 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that Platelet-Rich Plasma is able to reduce facial wrinkles. The study focused on 20 patients with facial wrinkles, all of whom got a single PRP injection and were evaluated 8 weeks before as well as after their treatment.
PRP Microneedling will restore the harmony and proportions of your face by resolving issues in these areas:
- Nasolabial folds
- Cheeks and jaws
- Around the eyes
- Crow’s feet
- Area of the upper lip
- Nose and forehead
PRP Microneedling is suitable for all skin types. However, it may not be suitable for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive as well as if you’re on anti-coagulation treatment. Those with autoimmune conditions or who have implants in the area to be treated should also consider another treatment.
During your free consultation, your past and present medical history will be evaluated to decide the suitability of the treatment.Usually, we recommend a plan of three treatments at four to eight week intervals. Optimal collagen production occurs around three months after the initial treatment, and that’s when you probably see the most dramatic results. Improvement can last anywhere from nine months to two years. After that, a follow up treatment may be required to keep your skin radiant.
After getting the treatment, you may experience redness or heat in the area of treatment. This redness is not painful and can be hidden with sterile makeup. Swelling and bruising can occur and may take less than a week to disappear. To maintain the results of your treatment, it is recommended to keep the skin well hydrated and to apply sunscreen several times a day. Like most of our patients, you may expect to recover quickly and be able to resume normal activities in about two to three days after your treatment.
Treats hair loss, too!
In addition to reversing the signs of aging on the face, PRP injections can also boost hair growth! When applied to the scalp, PRP promotes growth by stimulating the cells in the bulb located at the base of the hair as well as increases microcirculation. Treatment strengthens and brightens your hair for enhanced sheen and texture.
